ESG and certification
Kitchen savings that stand up in an ESG report.
Singapore's listed companies now report their Scope 1 and 2 emissions, and the hotel industry has set itself certification and emissions targets. DCKV cuts the electricity kitchen fans use and meters every kilowatt-hour it saves, so the reduction comes with the records an auditor will ask for.
Singapore
What Singapore is asking for
None of them names kitchen ventilation. The reporting and certification rules ask for energy and emissions figures that are measured, and the carbon tax makes every kilowatt-hour cost more. A kitchen that uses less electricity does better under each of them.

2023
Hotels start tracking emissions
The Hotel Sustainability Roadmap from the Singapore Tourism Board and the Singapore Hotel Association asked hotels to start tracking their emissions by 2023.
-
FY2025
Scope 1 and 2 reporting for listed companies
Every SGX-listed company reports its Scope 1 and 2 emissions for financial years starting on or after 1 January 2025.
-
2025
60% of hotel rooms certified
The roadmap's certification target: 60% of Singapore's hotel room stock with an internationally recognised sustainability certification, such as GSTC, by 2025.
-
2026 · 2027
Carbon tax at S$45 a tonne Today
The carbon tax rises to S$45 per tonne of CO₂e, with S$50 to S$80 targeted by 2030. It applies to large emitters, power generation among them, so it reaches kitchens through the price of electricity.
-
FY2029
Assurance on Scope 1 and 2
Listed companies need external limited assurance on their Scope 1 and 2 figures.
-
FY2030
Large non-listed companies follow
Companies with annual revenue of at least S$1 billion and total assets of at least S$0.5 billion begin climate reporting, Scope 1 and 2 included.
-
2030
Hotel emissions coming down
Hotels are to reduce their emissions by 2030, on the way to net zero by 2050.

Your kitchens in Scope 2 terms
A first estimate of what DCKV would take off your Scope 2 figure and your building's energy use intensity. The site survey replaces these assumptions with metered numbers.
What you receive
The records behind the number
- 01
Baseline
Your fans metered before installation, the calculation method, and sign-off from both sides.
- 02
Five-minute data
Power and speed for every drive, every five minutes, for the life of the system, available to you and your auditor.
- 03
Monthly statements
Energy saved, cost saved and CO₂ avoided for each kitchen, against the agreed baseline.
- 04
Your reporting year
Twelve statements add up to the year's Scope 2 reduction, at the emission factor your report uses.
Questions
Asked by sustainability teams
Can DCKV certify my kitchen?
No. Certificates come from the scheme and its assessors, whether that is GSTC, Green Mark or another programme. DCKV gives you measured reductions and the records behind them, which is what assessors and auditors ask a kitchen to show.
Is the saving Scope 1 or Scope 2?
Scope 2. Kitchen fans run on purchased electricity, so using less of it lowers Scope 2 emissions. If your company buys renewable energy certificates, your market-based Scope 2 figure is worked out separately from the location-based one.
Which emission factor applies in Singapore?
The Energy Market Authority's average grid emission factor: 0.402 kg CO₂ per kWh for 2024. Use the latest year EMA has published when you report.
Will the data stand up to assurance?
Listed companies need limited assurance on Scope 1 and 2 from FY2029. The baseline sign-off, the calculation method and the five-minute readings are the records an assurance provider asks to see, and DCKV keeps all three.
Does it count towards Green Mark?
Green Mark 2021 lets an existing building show its energy performance through energy use intensity, worked out from the utility bills. Less fan electricity lowers that figure. Your Green Mark consultant can tell you how it affects your rating.
